Sverchok Nodes – Quick Start

Even with a few minutes time it’s worth installing the Sverchok Nodes. The Sverchok Nodes allows us to model geometrie with nodetrees. And we can easily export useful nodegroups to a .json file.

How to start with Sverchok nodes?

Split first your view port in two screens. Change one viewport to the Sverchok nodes. Press new in the menu of the Sverchok Node-editor and press Shift+A. Now you add one of the generators to your liking. For example a torus. Next, press Shift+A again, go to Viz and add Viewer BMesh. Connect the sockets Vertices, Edges and the Polygons to Faces sockets. And there you get your torus alread. Make some changes and when you are happy, select the object and copy it with shift-D. Move it to another location and the copied mesh is mesh out of influence of the Sverchok nodes.

Well, this was just a super quick introduction hence the title Sverchok Nodes – Quick Start, but it gets you started. Below a video in case you prefer to watch rather than to read.

Where to download the Sverchok Nodes?

You can download the Sverchok Nodes on Github. For now, be sure to select the b28_Prelease Brach on the top-left. (This may change later once Sverchock for Blender 2.8 is out of pre-release). To get there directly use this link. Installation is as usual. Download the .zip file and in Blender you go to Edit > Preferences > Addons > Install. Browse to the .zip file you just downloaded, press Install, save preferences, refresh.

More information

That should get you started but keep an eye on this post. The plan is to post some .json files here so that you can import Sverchok Node setups. In case you have node setups to share be free to comment.

Take also a look at the Animation Nodes if you favor to work with Node Trees.

Installation of Sverchok from the github link you provided does not work for Blender 2.8, in Ubuntu 18.04 at least. Attempting to install Sverchok results in a lot of errors in the Blender info panel, and the Sverchok item in the Addons panel displays ‘Upgrade to 2.8x required’.

Thanks, I will double check it today and correct it.

Update: I’ve seen it. On the top left you have to select a branch, the b28_prelease branch. I didn’t give a direct link to it because it may change in the future when the Sverchok nodes for Blender 2.8 are out of pre-release. But I added a bit more info to the post and an extra link to the current download.
Thanks to notify me about it.
      Robert
