Rig on the Fly

Rig on the Fly

Rig On The Fly is a dynamic rigging tool for Blender, inspired by Richard Lico’s talks and courses. It allows for modifications to the rig functionality on the fly without losing motion, letting animators focus more on performance and less on overcoming rig limitations.

Key Features:

  • Rig Skeleton: Adds basic FK controllers to a selected armature without losing any animation keys.
  • Bake Rig: Applies the rig’s animation onto the base armature and removes all controllers created by RigOnTheFly.
  • Orient Rig/Bake: Makes imported armatures compatible with RigOnTheFly and prevents unwanted rotations.
  • Proxy Rig/Bake: Allows working with a proxy rig, making an editable copy of the selected rig that is compatible with Rig On The Fly.
  • Rig Layer Settings: Decide in advance to which bone layer Rig On The Fly sends bones.
  • Controller Size: Adjust the size of selected controllers without affecting animation.
  • Smart Channels and Smart Frames: Optimize the baking and rig changing process, ensuring only relevant keys and transforms are used.
  • Controller Shapes: Adds all RigOnTheFly’s controller shapes to the Blender file.
  • Key Range and Offset Keys: Provides flexibility in keyframing, ensuring smooth and consistent animation.
  • IK FK Switch: Allows for easy switching between IK and FK for two-bone IK setups.
  • Rotation and Scale Tools: Offers various tools for managing rotation and scale without modifying the animation.
  • Extra Controller and Center of Mass: Adds additional controllers for enhanced animation control.
  • Space Switch: Change selected controllers to function in world space or parent them to active or copied controllers.
  • Aim Space: Includes features like World Aim/Stretch, Aim Offset, and Aim/Stretch Chain for advanced animation control.
  • Inertia On Transforms: Apply inertia value to the X, Y, and Z of the location, rotation, or scale of selected controllers for smoother animation transitions.
