Path Tool

Path Tool

Path Tool is an add-on that enhances the standard shortest path selection operator used for tasks such as marking UV seams, selecting edges for sharpness, and segmenting objects along their mesh. It aims to make the process of selecting paths within Blender as straightforward as using the “Knife” tool, focusing on improving user experience and efficiency in editing mesh paths.

Key Features:

  • Mode Selection: Automatically switches between edge and face selection modes based on the current selection in the mesh editing mode. Edge selection is activated if no faces are selected, using mesh vertices as control points. Face selection operates when faces are initially selected, with mesh edges as control points.
  • Path Initialization: Allows for the creation of a path by selecting mesh elements sequentially to form the shortest path between them, starting with the creation of the first control element.
  • Path Adjustment: Provides options to move control elements dynamically, with paths updating automatically to reflect changes. Paths can be extended or closed using options in the circular menu or keyboard shortcuts.
  • Multi-path Editing: Supports working with multiple paths simultaneously. New paths can be initiated independently of existing ones through a simple keyboard command, enhancing workflow flexibility.
  • Path Interaction: Facilitates the merging of paths by dragging control elements to the start or end of other paths. Non-endpoint controls can stick together for joint movement, without merging.
